Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms are kind of a big deal in Washington. In 1912, Yukio Ozaki, the mayor of Tokyo, gave a gift of Japanese cherry trees to the city of Washington, DC that were planted around the Tidal Basin. Today, their blossoming is a sure sign of the beginning of spring.

Once again, having an archeologist for a brother presented me with a chance to travel and explore one of the wonders of the world. This time it was the Angkor temples in Cambodia, but on the way I spent some time visiting Bangkok.

When my older son was newborn he always seemed to have his feet sticking out of his blankets. To me this picture captures my wonder at the tiny thing that had moved into our house. A friend suggested that I start a blog to display some of the pictures I've taken. I got my first camera (a Kodak Instamatic) in 1968, and I've taken thousands of pictures since then. One thing I've learned about photography in that time is that if you take enough pictures, some of them will turn out looking as nice as you wish they all would. I'm planning to use this blog to display some of the ones that I like best, sometimes because they remind me of the places I've been or sometimes because I just like the way they turned out. If you've stumbled across this space, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
